May Member of the Month Interview: Carol Mahoney

1. What do you do outside of the gym? Career, hobbies, etc.!


I have loved horses all my life and love how they are so intuitive and know my energy within seconds, which really makes me be aware and be in the moment. I dabble in lower level eventing, which consists of dressage, show jumping and cross country jumping-it’s extremely challenging to do 3 different disciplines that should compliment , but sometimes conflict. 


2. How long have you been training with us?

 

I have been going to Old 97 Cross Fit  for 1 year.


3. What's been your biggest accomplishment since you began training with us?


It has been challenging, due to 1 week after I joined, I fell off my horse on to my left shoulder-I quickly had to readjust  and learn how to pursue strength and rehab an injury. I made some mistakes, but learned that the body will reward you if you be mindful of your temporary limitations. So my biggest payoff was a very good  dexa scan, which is a diagnostic tool to determine bone strength. Lifting is the best for maintaining and increasing bone density and strength, which all women should be pursuing.


4. What's your favorite thing about being a member here?

 

I have enjoyed the commanderie and community. Old 97 has the best welcoming atmosphere. I have been to a lot of studios through the years and  love  a studio that actually sees you and engages without fail-many big franchise studios tend to lose that personal touch.


5. What would you say to someone who is considering training with us?


Don't hesitate. You will get excellent instruction and they will ensure your form is proper and will modify and work with your capabilities.
